This is a model of interacting objects. Friction losses are present, i.e. the bodies move in a viscous medium. The interaction is calculated using inverse-square law; at small distances attraction is replaced by repulsion.
While interacting objects move around the common center of masses, small objects grouping closer to the center of mass, - that is defined by a minimum of potential energy.
As you can see, the potential energy stabilizes with time.
